Why did England and France not prevent Hitler from preparing for World War II?

England, France and other Western European countries pursued a “policy of appeasement” towards Nazi Germany. Having completely recovered from the bloody battles of the First World War, they were afraid of its renewal and in every way tried not to get involved in the aggressive policy pursued by Germany.
