Why did Greece lose its independence?

In the second half of the 4th century BC, Greece was at war with Macedonia. True, this time the Greeks could not defend their independence, since there was no unity between them. In this connection, after the Macedonians defeated the Greeks at the Battle of Chaeronea in 338 BC, a significant part of Greece fell into dependence on Macedonia.
