Why did Macedonia conquer the Greek city-states?

The Macedonians managed to conquer the Greek poleis, because at that moment there was no cohesion in Greece, as in the wars against Persia. Also, the Greek army was not as effective against the heavily armed Macedonian phalanx. The Macedonian Warriors had long counterparts that kept the Greek hoplites at bay. Also, in different wars, the Macedonians entered into alliances with different Greek policies, thus strengthening their positions on the Balkan Peninsula.
