Why did man select very few species for domestication from the wide variety of animal species that live on Earth?

For the domestication of certain types of animals, people chose those that could bring certain benefits at that time. For example, the dog was first domesticated because it helped hunt and hunt game. Then man began to tame animals with high productivity and capable of satisfying the need for food: eggs, milk, etc. Other various products that could be obtained from domesticated animals were also important: wool, leather, wax, honey.
