Why did religious contradictions intensify during the spread of the plague?

Whole villages and towns died from the plague, including small children and innocent adults. People, especially the well-read (as a rule, they were the founders of heresies and the leaders of the recognized churches), asked the question: for what? The answer, of course, was found in the fact that the priests do not serve well or are completely mired in sin. This means that in order to be saved, one must break away from the wrong church or, at worst, convict the neighboring church of unbelief or hereticism, than to establish one’s own faith.
