Why did slavery negatively affect the development of Rome?

If in the early years slavery in Rome was of a specialized nature (that is, each of the slaves was engaged only in what he knew how to do really well), then in later years it became closer and closer to feudalism. Slaves became, as the Romans themselves called them, “talking tools” and performed exclusively physical work, which they were most burdened by the masters. Also, there were a lot of slaves in Rome, as a result, the foundations of a free society, for which people fought for so long in Antiquity, began to collapse.
