Why did the ancient Greeks leave Greece and go to live in overseas countries?

This is due to the fact that the Greeks were looking for a better life. In Greece itself, land was scarce, where people could possess small patches of fields. When they set out on new lands, they were able to get much more land to cultivate. In addition, the colonies that the Greeks founded on new lands soon turned into trading cities, which contributed to the development of trade.
