Why did the artisans gather in the workshops?

In short, the association into workshops was very beneficial to the overwhelming majority of artisans in the medieval city. Those artisans who were not in the workshop were not allowed to trade. In fact, competition between artisans was completely eliminated, they had to make products according to a strictly specified pattern and not entice customers from each other, sell their products at strictly fixed prices.
