Why did the Greeks leave their homeland?

In Greece, there is a shortage of fertile land, there are good conditions for the development of animal husbandry and various crafts and shipbuilding. Consequently, it was not difficult for the Greeks to build a ship and sail away somewhere where there is a lot of free land and a colony can be created. These included Syracuse, Massilia, Olbia and many other colonies between the east coast of Spain and the west coast of Georgia (Phasis – now Poti).
