Why did the majority of the population still inclined to support the Soviet regime?

Because the Soviets have proposed a coherent and clear policy. It boiled down literally to the phrase “The land – to the peasants, factories – to the workers.” And the peasants knew that they were going to fight in order to get land afterwards. It is clear that the policy itself was not so simple. It provided for many nuances and options for further development. But it was real, and not abstract, as in the white movement: “First, deal with the red plague, and then we’ll see: maybe for the tsar, or maybe for the Fatherland.” Clarity and simplicity won out in the revolution.
