Why did the Mongols not begin to seize the trap of Europe during the invasion of Russia?

The forces of the Mongol-Tatar troops were exhausted by the military campaign in Kievan Rus, especially since they had a whole conquered Asia behind them, which demanded a military presence. Also, the territory of Europe was more hilly than the spacious lands of Russia, and therefore, the Tatars lost their main advantage – maneuverability.
