Why did the northern society choose a constitutional monarchy and the southern republic?

The Netherlands had an unstable political map during the Revolution, which led to the creation of one of the first bourgeois republics. The South has always been freer than the North in economic, political and cultural terms. The north fell under the influence of Spanish absolutism and actually belonged to the Spanish royal house. The strong influence of Philip II had a decisive role in choosing the sides – the North chose a constitutional monarchy, and the South chose a republic that did not interfere with the development of trade.
