Why did the owners of the estates give the slave only simple, crude instruments of labor?

The main reason why slaves worked with the simplest tools was the low qualifications of the slaves. For often, people fell into slavery as children, and could not receive any education. They also worked without enthusiasm and did not monitor the condition of the instruments at all, so they often fell into disrepair. Another reason was the reluctance of slave owners to invest in new and modern tools.
