Why did the people of ancient Greece depict the gods as people, and not animals?

This is due to the fact that the ancient Greek gods had a human appearance. They were much more beautiful and physically stronger than ordinary mortals. The most important deity was Zeus. He reigned in Olympus over all other gods. The goddess Hera was his wife. Also, the supreme Olympian had brothers and sisters: Hades, Poseidon, Demeter, Hestia and Hera. Together they ruled the whole world. Zeus himself began to rule after he imprisoned his father and the rest of the titans in the world dungeon – Tartarus.
