Why did the Phoenicians establish colonies?

The Phoenicians were the first civilization of the ancient world that lived thanks to foreign trade and advanced navigation, and not agriculture, like Babylonia or Egypt. The colonies were necessary for the export of goods that Phoenician cities produced, and there were many of them, for example, purple fabrics, metals (for example, copper from Cyprus), timber (Lebanese cedar). Something could be taken out of the colonies, for example, ivory and resold from the territory of Phenicia itself (today it is Lebanon) to Mesopotamia or Egypt.
