Why did the Popular Front movement originate in France and Spain?

In 1936, fascism was gaining momentum in France, Spain and a number of other states. The government in both countries was aware of the full danger of fascism for the working class and democracy. Thus, the Popular Front movements were created by the left-wing political parties of France and Spain.
