Why did the Roman emperors convert to Christianity?

The first emperor to adopt Christianity was Constantine the Great, and the whole world followed his example. According to the stories, Constantine had a vision of the cross, under this sign he must win. The ruler ordered all soldiers to draw a cross on the shield and as a result, Constantine’s army won. Constantine began to study Christianity and allowed his subjects to freely practice it.
