Why did the Romans stop choosing kings?

In the 6th century BC, an incident occurred, after which the Romans stopped doing it. In Rome, King Tarquinius ruled, who was not elected at the National Assembly, he seized power himself, killing his predecessor. People opposed him and he was expelled along with his family from Rome. After this, they stopped choosing the kings.
