Why did the ten commandments of the Old Testament become eternal values for many nations?

God Himself gave this law to humanity as an eternal, unchanging standard of good, a pattern of behavior. The Ten Commandments define our relationship with the Creator and Savior, as well as our responsibilities towards people. The Holy Scripture calls the violation of this law a sin.
