Why did the Viking leaders decide to convert their people to the Christian faith?

The old tribal cults did not satisfy the requirements of the new era – Christianity, with its strict church hierarchy, immutable dogmas and the consecration of royal power, was much better suited for fulfilling the tasks of centralizing power.
