Why do aquarists grow ciliates in milk?

Aquarists grow ciliates as fish feed. Therefore, they are interested in breeding them. In order for the ciliate to multiply actively, it needs a lot of nutrient substrate. They are known to feed on bacteria. Therefore, aquarists create conditions for the active reproduction of bacteria: in this case, milk is an excellent breeding ground for bacteria. Other methods of growing ciliates are also known: water with yeast, water with vegetable peelings, decoction of hay – and all of them are aimed at the active reproduction of bacteria.
