Why do birds lay eggs with a pointed end at the top and closer to the nest wall?

Birds lay eggs in nests, which in most species are at an altitude. These can be both ordinary nests in trees (crows, rooks) and hollows (owls), burrows in steep banks (swallows), attics and vents in houses (pigeons, swifts). All of them are at high altitudes, so there is a high risk of the egg falling out of the nest. Birds lay their eggs with the blunt end downward, as this gives them greater stability, and being far from the edge prevents the egg or chick from falling out of the nest.
