Why do cats have soft pads on their paws?

The paws of cats have a complex physiology and an interesting structure.

– sweat glands are located on the pad of the paws, they help in regulating the body temperature of the animal;

– soft pads give off a special secret that marks the territory. Accordingly, other cats understand by smell that they are in someone else’s territory;

– they also help the cat, if necessary, to change the direction of movement dramatically;

– used as a shock absorber;

– thanks to the nerve endings on the pads, cats determine the temperature and surface structure, feel the slightest vibrations.
