Why do descendants call Alexander the Great?

Alexander was nicknamed “the great” in ancient times: the first was, most likely, the Roman writer Curtius. This was the assessment of the achievements of the Macedonian king, who conquered almost the entire world then known. Moreover, Hellenistic culture reigned in the conquered lands, and this state of affairs survived for a long time by Alexander, who died at the age of 32.
Alexander could also be called “the greatest”: in terms of achievements, he was the largest political and military figure of antiquity.
