Why do mosses grow in large groups?

Mosses are higher spore plants. They are dioecious plants. That is, archegonia and antheridia – female and male genitals are located on different plant specimens. For the formation of sporangia, fertilization is necessary – the fusion of male and female gametes (sex cells). Male gametes must be transferred to a plant that carries female germ cells. The transfer takes place with the help of water – raindrops are most common. Therefore, male and female specimens should be located close to each other.
