Why do scientists believe that ancient people painted animals in caves so that they would not leave their edges?

Ancient people in the Paleolithic era formed religious ideas. Since they could not explain the essence of natural phenomena and the processes taking place around them, they invented various deities who, in their opinion, ruled nature. They began to depict animals on the rocks of their homes so that gods and spirits could hear them. Thus, the ancient people planned to call animals to their habitat or to appease the spirits so that they preserve the abundance of game. People did this because hunting was one of the few sources of food.
