Why do you think a small detachment of conquistadors managed to subjugate the developed states of the Maya, Aztecs and Incas?

The state of the Incas, Aztecs and Mayans lagged behind the Western European colonialists in many ways. The tribes could not equal in combat technique, tactics and military affairs with states that were always ready for war. Also, enemies of states, enslaved tribes, who easily went over to the side of the colonialists in exchange for freedom, played their role. Of course, they were deceived by the Europeans. The latter, by the way, had a clear goal – conquest and plunder, and the local leaders could not find their bearings quickly.
