Why do you think wages during the industrial revolution (in England) were kept at an extremely low level?

In the era of the industrial revolution (in England), human labor was replaced by machine tools, mechanisms, and new technologies began to be used.

All this made it possible to reduce the number of workers at each mechanized plant and enterprise.

A large number of people appeared in need of earning money. In order not to starve to death, people agreed to any job offered, even if the job was poorly paid. It was better than nothing.

The owner of a large enterprise, which was equipped with machine tools and other mechanisms, did not need a lot of employees and, naturally, like any capitalist, it was important to spend less money and get more profit.

By lowering wages, the capitalist increased his profit. And the workers had no choice: either agree to a small pay, or: “Goodbye! It’s your turn to take your place at the gate!”
