Why does a cell need chromoplasts?

Chromoplasts are colored plastids of higher plants that accumulate various pigments. These organelles differ in the set of pigments they contain, so their color also varies – red, yellow, orange, purple. Thanks to chromoplasts, the leaves, petals and fruits of the plant have a certain color. The bright color of petals and fruits is necessary to attract pollinators to the flower and animals that distribute ripe fruits. Fallen leaves are yellow due to the destruction of green chlorophyll and the appearance of yellow carotenoids.
