Why does an ordinary amoeba need a contractile vacuole?

The contractile vacuole is needed by the simplest, like amoebae and ciliates, in order to splash excess fluid from the cytoplasm. The plasma membrane that makes up their walls allows liquid to pass only in one direction, so a dangerously strong pressure is created inside. So, to put it simply, the contractile vacuole prevents the amoeba from “bursting”.
