The iodine solution does not stain the white border of the fringed geranium leaf due to the absence of chlorophyll in the white border of the leaf. Namely, with the participation of chlorophyll in the process of photosynthesis in green leaves, in this case in their green part, starch is formed. It turns out that if there is no chlorophyll in the white border, then there is no starch and, accordingly, the iodine solution does not stain blue.
