Why does the sun shine?

The sun shines because of the thermonuclear processes taking place in it, which are accompanied by the release of colossal volumes of thermal energy. At the center of the Sun, hydrogen is continuously converted into helium under the influence of very high temperatures – about 15.7 million degrees. The surface temperature of the sun is around 6,000 degrees Celsius.
