Why don’t tall trees grow in the tundra?

Tall trees in the tundra do not grow because the conditions of this belt are too harsh for them. The tundra is characterized by treelessness.

Subzero temperatures, fierce winds, permafrost, short and cold summers – all these are factors affecting the nature of the flora of the tundra. Short stature is one of the main adaptations of plants in these parts.

Of the trees in the tundra, you can find: dwarf birches, dwarf willows. All of them are pressed to the ground, and the roots are put on the top layer of the soil to keep warm.
