Why is it almost impossible for a person to navigate in space under water by sound?

Different waves – sound, sea, water, radio waves – operate on approximately the same principle. We have hearing organs that are adapted to life on land. Sound travels much faster in water. When we immerse ourselves in water, we hear many different noises. This will disorient us. If we adapt a little, then we will be able to navigate well by sound in the water. But for those new to scuba diving, sounds can be very disruptive and can cause confusion and even panic.
