Why is italy become the arena of long wars?

Italy is located on the Apennine Peninsula, that is, approximately in the center of the Mediterranean Sea and closer to the center of Europe on the south side. The peninsula served as a crossroads for trade routes, therefore, wars were fought there for a long time and intensively:

-Punic Wars. Specifically in 218-207 BC, Hannibal campaigned in Italy.

-Samnite Wars. They went from 343 to 290 BC, the goal was the hegemony of Rome on the peninsula.

-Wars in the 5th century AD with the Goths, Vandals and Germans.

-Medieval military conflicts, especially in the XIII-XIV century, since some cities were on the side of the Pope, while others were on the side of the Emperor of the Holy Roman Empire.
