Why is lichen called symbiosis?

Lichen is a form of symbiosis between fungus and algae, and consists of two components: algal (phycobiont) and fungal (mycobiont). That is why they grow on almost any soil, and are able to photosynthesize even under snow, they also remain viable even at temperatures up to +80 degrees.
