Why is metallurgy classified as a dirty industry.

Almost all metals in nature do not occur in the lithosphere in their usual form. In mines or quarries, only ore is mined, that is, rock, which contains a certain percentage of metal. To highlight this metal, a number of complex and costly manipulations should be carried out. For example, earlier, in order to smelt iron, they used “open-hearth” furnaces, which worked on solid coal. After the combustion of such quantities of solid fuel, both the atmosphere and the groundwater, and of the soil itself, were polluted. Now, coal is not required, only electricity is needed, but in order to generate it, TPPs burn various kinds of fuel. In addition, the environment is directly polluted by ore waste.
