Why is oil better than coal? Why is it used to produce fuel for internal combustion engines?

1. In nature, oil occurs in liquid form, which facilitates its extraction and transportation. It can be easily transported through pipelines. This is a cheaper way than transportation by road.
2. Oil is the most efficient energy source compared to coal. When 1 kg of oil is burned, about 41 MJ (megajoules) of energy is released, while coal of the same mass gives only 29.3 MJ.
3. During the combustion of coal, 5-10 times more nitrogen oxides are released than during the combustion of other types of fuel.
4. Oil is a source for the chemical industry. Many polymers are made from it. The most common refined petroleum products are polyethylene or plastic, petroleum jelly, lipstick, and chewing gum. The use of coal is also possible in the chemical industry, but its use is less effective than oil.
5. Steam engines that burn coal are less efficient than internal combustion engines that burn oil derivatives. Thanks to this, the latter have become widespread everywhere in the form of various vehicles. The fuel for internal combustion engines is gasoline, diesel fuel.
