Why is the idea of religious tolerance so important for Europe?

The idea of religious tolerance is associated with the idea of secularization – with the idea of eliminating the dominant position of the church. The equality of all denominations before the law and their equal recognition undermined the rule of the clerics. Also, religious tolerance expanded the possibilities of forming a worldview where no special place was given to God the creator.
