Why is the lancelet referred to as chordate animals?

A feature of chordates is the presence of a chord (in lower chordates) or a spine (in higher chordates).
In the lancelet, a notochord stretches along the body, which serves as an internal skeleton. The chorda of the lancelet remains with him throughout his life.
Hence, we can conclude that the lancelet is a chordate animal.
