Why is the last period of the Middle Ages called the “Renaissance”?

The Renaissance is an intermediate stage in the history of Western Europe between the Middle Ages and the New Age (14-17 centuries). There was a rethinking of their history and culture by Europeans, a gradual rejection of the domination of church dogmas, the center of the universe becomes a man (and not his soul), an interest arose in the heritage of antiquity. The results of the era were the creations of great masters (da Vinci, Michelangelo, Raphael, Cranachi, Brueghel), revolutionary scientific and geographical discoveries (Copernicus, Galileo, Bruno, Columbus, Magellan).
