Why is the manufactory a new type of enterprise?

Manufacturing was an innovation in the Middle Ages. For the 15th century, the division of labor into operations and their unification under one roof became an essentially new type of production. Before that, artisans, sitting in their shops, created single goods for a very long time. They had several assistants and disciples. Manufactory, on the other hand, combined the elements of conveyor production, only without replacing manual labor with machine labor. Thus, manufacturers could produce a much larger volume of products in a shorter time frame.
