Why is the moon turned to the earth on one side and we never see the other?

The time it takes for the moon to rotate around its axis is equal to the time it takes to rotate around the Earth. Therefore, we can only see one side of the moon. Although, this is not entirely true. Its orbit is not round, but slightly elongated – elliptical, because of which the moon turns and we can see the western and eastern edges of its other side. We also see the northern edge with the southern edge due to the fact that the moon’s orbital plane is slightly not perpendicular to the axis of its rotation.
