Why is the US dollar the world’s currency?

The US dollar has been a global (world) currency since the middle of the 20th century. This was facilitated by the outcome of the Burtton Woods Conference, which took place in 1944, and as a result of which the dollar was pegged to gold. It was the pegging of the dollar to gold that played a decisive factor in the fact that the dollar began to dominate over all other currencies in the world.
