Why was the church divided into Catholic and Orthodox?

The Christian Church was originally one. But due to the vastness of the territories and the difference in mentality, numerous conflicts arose between the leaders of the Western Church and the Eastern Church. Their main reason was the unwillingness to concede power and supremacy over religion. The patriarch and the pope argued among themselves. Their conflict over headship was resolved by the complete separation of the branches of the church from one another. The Pope settled in western Europe, and the patriarch ruled over the Byzantine Empire – eastern Rome.
