Why was the Olympic Games just for men?

The ancient Olympic Games were significantly different from the modern ones. In the days of ancient Greece, the Olympic Games were a sporting and religious celebration of Olympia. People admired the beautiful athletic bodies, and therefore the men competed naked. The winners of these games were lauded as heroes who won the war. It is not surprising that during the ancient games, women were forbidden to either participate in them or just be a spectator. Exceptions could only be granted for priestesses of the goddess of fertility. But for women, there were separate special women’s sports games.
