Why was the second world front in Europe opened so late?

This is due to the fact that Western countries (England and the USA) had their own considerations on this score. So they hoped that Germany and the USSR would exhaust each other, and thus, at the end of the war, they would also be able to strike at the Soviet troops, so that they could not capture a significant part of Europe. But one way or another, and the Soviet army, even after the capture of Berlin, was very strong and powerful, so the plans of the allies never came true.
