Why was there a need for university education in medieval society?

In the 12th – 15th centuries, there was an active development of cities, an increase in the number of urban residents, their manifestation of activity in socio-cultural and economic life. Also, at the same time, people’s demands are growing, new interests appear. Commodity-money relations are developing. All these factors stimulated rational thinking, which made them strive for a good education. Therefore, the need for universities has increased.
