Why was writing in Mesopotamia called cuneiform?

Since ancient times, people have learned to adapt to their place of residence. So it was in Mesopotamia. The inhabitants did not have the opportunity to use raw materials from papyrus for writing. But they noticed that when animals leave footprints on wet clay (and there was a lot of clay just here), the footprints are clearly visible when the clay dries. It was impossible to write on wet clay. Then they came up with the idea of making notes with sharpened sticks. The clay dried and the text was very readable. Thus, the resourcefulness of people made it possible to conceive a new type of writing – cuneiform.
