Why were cities built near rivers?

All the most ancient civilizations first arose in the basins of large rivers. This can be explained by the following reasons:

1) Rivers made it possible to actively engage in agriculture;

2) Rivers were a huge source of fresh water;

3) Rivers were also a great source of fish, which made it possible for the ancients to fish and feed from the river;

4) Rivers connected different settlements with each other, so river transport began to arise.
